Concrete Reinforcement Agents

[ad_1]

Reinforcing concrete is a way to include composite material in concrete, which have essentially low tensile strength, to make it durable, firmer and stronger. Most of the reinforcing done is while the concrete is not yet set. This process makes the structures crack proof and helps to avoid any failures or depressions in the building designs. Some of the things to look out for a good quality reinforcement agent are, good strength of the material, strong tolerance to any kind of strain, superior concrete bonding, resistance to moisture, compatibility with changing temperatures and corrosion and rust proof.

With rising skyscrapers, and modern building architectures, concrete reinforcement becomes one of the main constructing materials to provide durability and strength to the structures. Reinforcement agents are sometimes used as a precast where they are moulded with concrete in a controlled environment before being transported to the construction site. Another, more commonly practiced way to use reinforcing agents is pouring it with concrete at the site itself and allowing it to cure and set.

Types of Reinforcement Agents

Various types of materials are used as reinforcement agents in construction out of which the most commonly used ones are fiber, rebar and wire mesh.

Fiber: These agents contain fibrous materials in them and when applied with the concrete on buildings, can give the structure a strong foundation. Fiber mesh when mixed in concrete prevents the concrete from cracking and is one of the best options for making the structure crack proof. However, if the structure still does crack even after the addition of fiber mesh, then too this reinforcement agent helps by preventing any further expansions in the crack. The fiber mesh lends the structure a permeability thus preventing any leakage of water which is the main cause for structural corrosions.

Rebar: Shortened for reinforcing bars, this is a process of reinforcing steel bars or rods into the structure to provide it an anchorage. One of the oldest forms of reinforcements in buildings, these have been in use as far as the construction of the Leaning Tower of Nevyansk in Russia. Rebar helps to distribute the tensile loads of the concrete thereby giving it a resistance from cracks and caving. Because steel and concrete have similar effects of temperature changes, rebar method of reinforcement becomes a highly compatible agent. Rebar can be done either as primary reinforcement or a secondary reinforcement. Both the methods provide the structures with much needed strength and stability.

Wire: This is the most cheaper and easier to install option among all the reinforcement agents available. This agent is flexible and creates a semi-permeable barrier of welded wire together to give the structures foundation and support. Wire mesh is also the best agent when it comes to weathering changing temperatures. The assembly time for this agent is the quickest and they are the easiest to use as a reinforcement agents in building supports and structures.
